DULUTH, Minn. — On Saturday, May 2, a portion of Park Point’s recreational lane will transform into a vibrant, community-wide Color the Point experience—part art, part awareness, all fun!

Minnesota Point 50 (MP50) invites residents and visitors to “Chalk It Up,” a free, family-friendly event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the recreational lane between 30th and 31st on Minnesota Avenue, in front of Lafayette Square.

From May through October, the lake side of Minnesota Avenue is designated as a recreational lane—providing a safer space for pedestrians and bicyclists alongside the busy roadway. But as the beach and fishing season begins, the lane is frequently filled with parked cars, often by those unaware of the seasonal rules.

MP50 is using creativity to change that. The goal is simple: have fun and shine a light on an often-overlooked safety issue.

By turning the lane into a community chalk art space, the event welcomes the public to draw, write and share why Minnesota Point matters to them—while reinforcing a clear message-this lane is for people, not parking.

“Summer brings increased traffic to Park Point. It’s important that we protect pedestrians and cyclists by not parking in the recreation lane and by driving the speed limit, MP50 Board Vice President, Brian Ruggle said. “Our Chalk It Up event is helping raise this awareness so we can all enjoy Park Point safely.”

No supplies are needed—just show up. Water, snacks and prizes for chalk art participants will be available.
