- Decide which shares to donate:
- Identify the stock name, ticker symbol (if publicly traded), number of shares, and intended transfer date.
- Obtain nonprofit’s account information:

- Complete stock donation forms:
- Find stock donation forms in your brokerage’s online account portal or use printed forms.
- Fill out the forms with the information from Steps 1 and 2.
- Mail or fax the completed forms to your brokerage’s address of record.
- If you receive a confirmation number, keep it for your records.
- Note: To receive a tax deduction for the current year, complete your donation by December 31.
- Follow up with Minnesota Point 50 (minnesotapoint50@gmail.com):
- Notify Minnesota Point 50 of your stock donation so we can expect it.
- Confirm that Minnesota Point 50 receives your donation and obtain a tax receipt that includes the transfer date, donation value, number of shares, and stock ticker name.
- Report the donation on your taxes:
- Report your stock donation on IRS Form 8283 when you file your federal tax return for the year you donated the stock.
