Dune Stewardship Day Initiative

Join the Minnesota DNR Coastal Program, Minnesota Point 50, the City of Duluth, and Minnesota Sea Grant at Lafayette Park for hands-on activities, guided dune walks, and opportunities to learn how to help protect Minnesota Point’s unique dune ecosystem.
Minnesota Point’s dune ecosystem is one of the region’s most unique and sensitive natural resources. To help protect and care for it, partners are developing the Dune Stewardship Initiative, a two-year effort focused on community stewardship, education, and conservation.
The initiative includes:
• Dune Stewardship Day – a community event featuring experts, hands-on learning, and opportunities to connect with the dune landscape.
• Dune Stewards Program – an ongoing effort to encourage simple actions that help protect dunes year-round.
Funding has been secured for planning, coordination, and implementation through 2026 and 2027, with the long-term vision of creating a sustainable annual stewardship program.
This initiative is currently in the planning and partner-engagement phase. Minnesota Point 50, the City of Duluth, Minnesota Sea Grant, and other partners are working together to shape the program and build a shared commitment to dune stewardship.
Stay tuned for more information as the initiative develops!
